Ohhhh I am so excited to share this hoodie. Come winter time, I have a “slight” hoodie obsession. And being 27 weeks pregnant isn’t going to stop me from making alllllll the hoodies! I have to say, this new one is a winner in my book. I absolutely LOVE the color blocking and the way it fits. I love that you can use scraps and don’t have to have continuous yardage of something. I literally went through my stash and found pieces that weren’t enough for anything and turned them into this! Meet The Around the Block Hoodie from Ellie and Mac!
The pattern takes some time to piece together (just because there are so many pieces) but for me it was fun using all the fabric scraps that I couldn’t do much else with. I wasn’t sure how all my choices would come together but I am really happy with the outcome.
The hood features an overlap that creates a fun look at the collar and the faux drawstrings were perfect for my taste as I don’t ever use drawstrings anyhow. So no tedious threading through the hood.
I also did not make any adjustments for my belly! I made my standard size medium. I did add length per the pattern pieces for my height. I added 3-inches to the bodice for my height. Adding this much also helps keep it pulled down over my belly. I have also found that I have longer than normal arms so I added 2.5-inches to the arms. I probably could have added a little less. Nonetheless, it is still perfect in my book and I am excited to make another one.
So, the first thing I thought about when I saw this pattern was that I needed to hack it for nursing. It’s already set up for easy hacking with the color blocking so I am thinking I can add some invisible zippers and make this work. I plan on doing a nursing hack post to follow this one so stay tuned!
