As I announced here, Emma is going to be a big sister! So naturally my sewing has shifted towards maternity wear, or items I can wear throughout my pregnancy. One thing I learned when I was pregnant with Emma (pre-sewing days), was that cute maternity clothes are nearly impossible to find. And when you do find them – they are far from inexpensive. Now that I have this new found love for sewing EVERYTHING, I am so excited to be able to whip up some maternity clothes.
My first official piece belly friendly clothing was kicked off with the Designer Stitch Shakti Pants. With several options for the waistband, these are perfect for a growing stomach. I made the yoga waistband, straight leg option!
The yoga waist has 3/4″ elastic in the waistband seam which hold the pants in place perfectly. (So when you fold the band over, the elastic sits just at the top of the pants.) I love the fold over style of the band too.
And guys – this fabric!! I found it at Wal-Mart for $1 a yard! One dollar! So that means these adorable, comfy pants cost me less than $2 to make. It’s a super soft brushed poly and I couldn’t believe I found it at Wal-Mart.
As for adjustments for this pants, I made a straight size 4 per my measurements. However, I did add length to the crotch. The rise is perfect and I don’t have any issues with the pants creeping into unwanted places. I have the pants paired with a RTW top from Target that is a little more fitted than my preference but I wanted something that showed off the pants for pictures. I did pair these with a looser navy shirt, threw on a necklace and wore these to work! They were so comfortable all day, yet I still felt appropriately dressed!
